My Thoughts = Prosecutor Princess (2010)

Posted on June 9, 2010

Synopsis: Ma Hye Ri is a woman with an excellent memory and ability to focus, which allowed her to pass the bar exam with ease. Despite her talents, she is more interested in being fashionable and dislikes hard work so she is far from being an ideal prosecutor and has doubts about her suitability for her job. Through her conflicts with senior colleages and struggles with difficult cases, however, Hye Ri gradually matures into a brilliant prosecutor with a sense of duty and justice.

My thoughts: It casts Kim So Yeon as Ma Hye Ri fresh from her North Korean spy-isk character from the hit drama IRIS into this totally different character and some would even say opposite of the cool and collected role she played prior. However, as Ma Hye Ri, she solidifies her footing as an actress I feel that people will not mold into one particular type. Park Shi Hoo as Seo In Woo and Han Jung Soo as Yoon Se Joon (who by the way also just finished a mighty general role in Chuno) play the the male leads. Although at halfway point, it becomes apparent that Seo In Woo captures Ma Hye Ri’s true heart. Honestly, I loved the casting of this drama and even if it was rating last on its Wed-Thurs run – it still endeared itself to me the most because of the storyline and how it slowly got better and better each episode, each week. I enjoyed how it the pacing was just right and how the characters didn’t change drastically (like some dramas would do to create more ratings) and how each “learnings” were carried into the next plot and so on. It deals with unforgiveness/forgiveness and hate/love which seems basic, but how it was tackled truly set it apart from other dramas like it from the past.
